Srinagar: The belongings of Chirag Kotwal, who auditioned for the ongoing Indian Idol season 13, were stolen from the New Delhi railway station.

However, budding singer Chirag from Bhaderwa in Jammu and Kashmir did not lose hope and performed brilliantly at the auditions where he won the ‘Golden Mic’. Now, he has made it straight to the theater rounds of the country’s most popular singing talent show.

Chirag’s rendition of the old Bollywood melody ‘Chaudwin Ka Chand Ho Ya Aftab Ho’ impressed the judges Himesh Reshammiya, Neha Kakkar and Vishal Dadlani and they awarded him the ‘Golden Mic’.

Reshammiya, a popular Bollywood composer/singer, says she became a fan of Chirag as it was one of the best performances of the season.

“This is one of the best shows of the season… what tonal quality, what grace! I have become your fan,” Himesh said while handing over the ‘golden mic’ to Chirag.

Bollywood singer and Indian Idol anchor Aditya Narayan said he ‘lost everything’ at Chirag railway station but the thieves could not steal his talent.

“He lost everything at the New Delhi railway station but they couldn’t steal his talent,” he said.

Chirag’s performance left netizens in awe, especially from Jammu and Kashmir.

“Bhaderwa’s proudest moment as Chirag Kotwal of Khalu Bhaderwa village in Jammu and Kashmir received the golden mic. Chirag rose to fame in 2022 after being selected as one of the contestants in the 13th season of the singing reality show Indian Idol on Sony TV. Congratulations Chirag, (sic),” commented a netizen on Facebook.

Relatedly, the ‘Golden Mike’ is a trophy awarded to some of the best contestants in the Indian Idol auditions. Winning ‘Golden Mike’ in Indian Idol means direct entry to ‘Theatre Rounds’.
