New Delhi, Sep 26 (PTI) External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has informed the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) that it has taken up the issue of forced conversion of a Sikh woman with Pakistan and expressed hope that strict action will be taken against those responsible.
The NCM said in a statement that it had taken cognizance of media reports regarding abduction and forced conversion of a Sikh girl in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa area of Pakistan.
NCM chief Iqbal Singh Lalpura, through a letter on August 22, requested the External Affairs Minister to take up the matter with his counterpart in Pakistan so that such incidents do not recur and ensure the safety of Sikhs in the neighboring country. And appropriate steps should be taken to prevent and combat the hatred against them.
The statement said that External Affairs Minister Jaishankar, in a letter dated September 17, informed the NCM chief that the government took cognizance of the incident and as soon as the incident was reported, it took up the matter with the Government of Pakistan through diplomatic channels and thus Expressed serious concern over the shocking and condemnable incident.
