ISLAMABAD: The possibility of taking tough decisions is indicated in the political level talks between Pakistan and the IMF. After technical-level talks between Pakistan and the IMF review mission, policy-level talks have begun to take major decisions, where tax revenue, budget deficit and reforms in the energy sector will be discussed while the budget deficit is being discussed. Finalizing policy formulation on key issues including external financing and budget framework will be agreed, as well as additional revenue measures will be addressed by identifying fiscal deficit statistics under which a micro budget will be introduced. The Fed has assured that it will meet the tax target of 7470 billion rupees set for the current fiscal year, while the IMF has insisted on increasing electricity and gas tariffs to reduce subsidies.
