ISLAMABAD: The federal government has started introducing new taxes as part of the Rs 1 trillion 70 billion micro-budget agreed with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The FBI increased the GST rate from 17 to 18 percent and also increased the federal excise tax rate on cigarettes to 150 percent. A senior FBI official told private television that not only has a notice been issued, but field units have been instructed and the new tax rate has been imposed from today (Wednesday).
