MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik – February 05, 2023) Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel, called on law enforcement agencies to act against threats to kill him that have been circulating on the Internet.
“Today we heard and saw an open threat to kill the Prime Minister of Israel… I expect the law enforcement agencies to take immediate measures against those who incite murder,” Netanyahu was quoted as saying by his press office.
According to Israeli media, this statement was made in response to a post by a former air force pilot on social networks and an anti-government protest figure, Zeev Raz.
On Friday, Raz wrote that “if a respected prime minister assumes dictatorial powers, that prime minister must die along with his ministers and followers.”
According to the report, the Israeli police started investigating this case on Saturday night.
Raz reportedly backtracked on his comments, saying he was not familiar with the post, noting it was “a quote from the person who retracted it.”
On January 4, Israel’s Justice Minister Yariv Levin drafted a package of legal reforms that would limit the powers of the Supreme Court of Justice and give the cabinet control over the selection of new judges. The planned changes caused public criticism and a wave of protests.
