New Health Secretary Therese Coffey has unveiled her plans to tackle the NHS crisis. The plan includes 7,000 hospital beds available by this winter, more advanced telephone line systems and a new £500m social care fund.

However, Labor criticized the proposals, saying Shadow Health Secretary Wes Streeting Coffey had a “Sesame Street” approach to politics and that “Conservatives promising to fix the crisis in the NHS have started by promising to put out the fire”.

Outlining his plans to Parliament, the health secretary said all those needing a GP appointment should have one in two weeks and the government would look for new ways to tackle ambulance handover delays.
