National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Aftab Sultan has resigned from his post due to personal reasons.

According to sources, Aftab Sultan had a meeting with the Prime Minister and submitted his resignation. In one of his statements, Aftab Sultan says that I was told about some things about which there were reservations, due to which I resigned a few days ago.

In a statement published by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), it is confirmed that Aftab Sultan submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The Prime Minister appreciated the services of Aftab Sultan and appreciated his honesty and good intentions. According to the statement of the prime minister’s office, the prime minister reluctantly accepted the resignation of Aftab Sultan at his request.

According to sources, the former NAB chief refused to forcibly arrest politicians at “anyone’s wish”. “Aftab Sultan has been under pressure from the government and certain institutions for the last four months and was forced to file a case against several people.

Sources say that Aftab Sultan said that my resignation was accepted and we ended well because I could not work in the current conditions. He always worked according to merit and law and did not want to do anything that would raise questions in the institution.

According to sources, under the NAB Reforms Act, NAB’s powers have been reduced and the NAB chairman has pointed out the lack of powers.

The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government has appointed Aftab Sultan as the NAB chairman after the tenure of Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal ends in 2022. His name was proposed by the People’s Party. Aftab Sultan was appointed the head of NAB on July 21, 2022 for a term of three years.

Aftab Sultan belongs to the Pakistan Police Service and is a rank 22 officer. Aftab Sultan has also served in other important positions, including DGIB. Aftab Sultan was appointed IG Punjab in 2013 general elections. His father and mother-in-law were representatives of Majlisi Milli twice.
