Islamabad: NAB Chairman Aftab Sultan resigned. Aftab Sultan met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and submitted his resignation, which was accepted by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Aftab Sultan, who was talking to Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif after the meeting, said that I resigned a few days ago. They asked me about some things that I didn’t agree with and that’s why I resigned.
It is worth mentioning that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s cabinet in July 2022 approved Aftab Sultan, a former chief of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and a retired police officer, as the new chief of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for three years.
Aftab Sultan was born in 1954 in a political and industrial family in Faizabad, Punjab. After completing his law degree from Punjab University, Aftab Sultan passed the competitive examination in 1977 and joined the police service.
Aftab Sultan faced various conflicts during his career. When it was decided to hold a referendum in 2002 after Pervez Musharraf imposed martial law in the country, Aftab Sultan was posted as DIG in Sargodha at that time.
When the Pakistan People’s Party came to power in 2008 after a general election, Yusuf Raza Gilani, the new prime minister, appointed Aftab Sultan as the Director General of the Intelligence Bureau (DGIB). But when the Supreme Court disqualified Yusuf Reza Geloni for contempt of court for not writing a letter to the Swiss authorities in the cases related to Asif Zardari, Roja Parviz dismissed Ashraf Aftab Sultan from the post of DGIB. .
