ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan People’s Party yesterday called for national unity against terrorism and criticized Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf Chairman Imran Khan for his controversial remarks.

PPP vice-president Sherry Rehman, who is also the federal minister for climate change, said Imran Khan’s “irresponsible statements” were an attempt to create a soft corner for terrorist organisations. “During the 2013 elections, terrorist organizations targeted the People’s Democratic Party and prevented it from conducting election campaigns. The People’s Democratic Party is seriously concerned about the new wave of terrorism before the elections,” he said on Twitter. The leader of the People’s Democratic Party said that the nation, all political parties and all partners should be united to fight terrorism. “The country cannot afford to maintain further division and terrorism. “Because of the vague policy of the previous government, the terrorists got a chance to reorganize. Now Imran Khan says that they wanted to dislodge the Taliban in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” he added in a series of tweets.

Sherry Rahmon said that the brutal and deadly attack in Peshawar and the increasing incidents of terrorism are very worrying.

“The families of the martyrs are equal participants in grief. PKR can understand their pain. Such events lead to national unity. We need to implement national unity and a national action plan,” he said.
