A story of the Sufi tradition about the Basant holiday

There is a special event related to Basnati of Hazrat Nizamuddin Awliya! The story goes like this. It so happened that Khoja Shamsuddin Tahiuddin Nuh, the beloved nephew of Hazrat Nizamuddin Awliya, died at the age of 18. After this, Nizamuddin Awliya became very sad and spends more time in his monastery. Many months passed, but the grief did not subside, and because of this, all the believers were worried. Hazrat Nizamuddin Avliya was walking near his monastery in Chabutra Yaran.

When the dearest student of Hazrat Amir Khusro found out about his condition, he decided to make him happy. That day was Basant Panchami and people in Delhi were going to the Kalkaji temple to offer the first harvest of wheat to the goddess. People asked the reason, they told Hazrat Amir Khusro that this pleases God and blesses everyone. Hazrat Amir Khusro picked fresh mustard flowers and reached Chabutra Yaran. He placed a mustard plant at the feet of Hazrat Nizamuddin Awliya.
