Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday met King Charles III during a reception organized by the king for foreign dignitaries in London to attend the funeral of the late Queen Elizabeth II.
Condoling the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, the Prime Minister observed that the late monarch was a source of inspiration and strength for generations of Commonwealth citizens.
PM Shehbaz recalled that the people of Pakistan have fond memories of the late Queen’s two visits to the country. “The bond of affection between the Royal Family and the nation of Pakistan has strengthened over time,” he added.
On behalf of the people and government of Pakistan, the Prime Minister congratulated King Charles III on his accession to the throne and hoped that he would carry on his mother’s legacy in further strengthening the friendship between Commonwealth countries.
He stated that the people of Pakistan hold the King in high esteem and look forward to welcoming him to the country as soon as possible.
Shehbaz thanked the British monarch for the royal family’s sympathy and support in the wake of the unprecedented floods.
“The appeal for help and the response from the British government and people was much appreciated in Pakistan,” he said.
According to the BBC, Queen Elizabeth’s funeral will take place on Monday, September 19 at 11:00 BST. It takes place in London’s Westminster Abbey, the historic church where Britain’s kings and queens have been crowned.
The ceremony is expected to end before noon, when the Last Post – a short bugle call – is played. Two minutes of national silence will be observed afterwards.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will reach New York from London on Monday (today) to represent Pakistan at the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
During his stay in New York, he will hold important bilateral meetings with leaders of other countries. Radio Pakistan reported.
Tomorrow (Tuesday), the Prime Minister will also meet French President Emmanuel Macron, who will attend the reception of United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres.
Apart from meetings with the Austrian Chancellor and the Spanish President, PM Shehbaz will also meet the European Union President Council Charles Michael.
Also participate in the Global Food Security Summit.
On Wednesday, the Prime Minister will meet International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva and World Bank President David Mills.
Along with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, PM Shehbaz will also hold a bilateral meeting with Iranian President Syed Ibrahim Raisi. He will host a lunch in honor of President Erdogan and his wife on Wednesday.
The Prime Minister’s other engagements include meetings with Malaysian Prime Minister Sabri Yacob, UNGA President, Microsoft founder Bill Gates, UN Secretary General and Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai.
The Prime Minister will also meet the Prime Ministers of China, Japan and Luxembourg.
He will address the UNGA on Friday (September 23).
During his stay in the United States, PM Shehbaz gives interviews to various prominent US media houses.

The British Foreign Secretary hosted a reception at Church House in honor of foreign guests attending the funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth.
Prime Minister Sharif interacted with former Prime Ministers David Cameron and Boris Johnson. He also exchanged views with Labor Party leader Sir Keir Starmer.
