In an impromptu news conference at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport after her arrival from Kathmandu on Wednesday afternoon, Bangladesh captain Sabina Khatun dedicated the SAFF Women’s Championship trophy to the people of the country.

The airport was thronged with media personnel, football fans and general public who had arrived to watch the players.

Sabina, the tournament’s top scorer and most valuable player, said: “We are happy to see how much the people of this country appreciate us. We thank everyone for making us feel so welcome. “

“This trophy belongs to the whole country, it is worth 16 crores, 18 crores or 20 crores. We have achieved a satisfactory result. Now, our aim is to do better in the next few days,” she said.

The squad boarded an open-top vehicle that paraded through the streets of Dhaka before arriving at the Bangladesh Football Federation House in Motijheel, where the team was felicitated by BFF President Kazi Salahuddin.

Sabina expressed her appreciation to both her BFF and BFF’s boss.

“Since 2012, a lot of progress has been made in the field of women’s football. This success is the culmination of many years of hard work in the last five to six years. Bangladesh Football Federation and its president Kazi Salahuddin are the most important contributors to this success,” said Sabina.
