The first nationwide anti-reform demonstration was held on January 19 by eight of France’s major trade unions, with an attendance of around two million people.

The strike against the pension reform plan, called by France’s leading trade unions, will take place in more than 200 locations on January 31, marking the second nationwide demonstration against raising the retirement age. The media reported on this.

According to BFMTV, the trade unions of the Paris public transport operator RATP Group, as well as the employees of the Paris Charles de Gaulle airport and the workers of the funicular railway, have already announced their participation in the strike.

On January 10, 2023, French Prime Minister Elizabeth Bourne presented a bill on pension reform, which is scheduled to be implemented in September 2023. Based on this, the French government will start raising the retirement age by three months every year from September 1, and will gradually increase it from 62 to 64 years by 2030.

The nationwide anti-reform demonstration was organized by eight large French trade unions on January 19, 2014, in which almost two million people participated. Strikes took place in more than 200 places in France, the biggest demonstrations were held in Paris, Marseille, Lyon, Toulouse, Lille and Nantes.
