Puber Kalm Webdesk: Hundreds of Burmese Army soldiers have surrendered to the Arakan Army after Myanmar’s Arakan Army (AA) separatist armed group dominated fighting in northern Rakhine and southern Chin states. Arakan Army spokesman Khaing Thukha said the military junta is fighting on multiple fronts across the country. They can no longer use as much force as they used to in the Rakhine state war. Fighting between the Myanmar Army and the Arakan Army has intensified in recent weeks. The Arakan Army has captured several military bases and taken control of strategic transportation routes. Khaing Thukha claims that at least 100 Burmese soldiers have joined the Arakan Army after the resumption of the conflict. However, Myanmar media were unable to independently verify the Arakan Army’s claims. According to locals, a Myanmar army soldier left his post in Kyauktau township in May. Then, in early September, two more junta troops did the same to 3 officers from the border police outpost in Rathedaung township. The conflict in Rakhine and Paletwa has been at a standstill for nearly 16 months after an undeclared ceasefire that began ahead of the November 2020 general election. But in recent weeks, the conflict has flared up again. The Arakan Army spokesman said: ‘At the moment we are in a good position. But the military government constantly increases its army. The fight may become more intense in the future.’
