MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik – February 19, 2023) G7 foreign ministers on Saturday reaffirmed the importance of continuing and expanding the Black Sea Grain Initiative and called on Moscow to speed up reviews and speed of operations to meet global needs.
“G7 members … reaffirmed the importance of continuing and expanding the Black Sea Grain Initiative and stressed the need to increase the pace of inspections and operations to meet global needs,” the statement said.
The meeting of the G7 foreign ministers was held on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, which will continue until Sunday.
In July 2022, Russia, Ukraine, Turkey and the United Nations agreed to provide a humanitarian maritime corridor for ships transporting food and fertilizers from Ukraine’s Black Sea ports.
It is part of a package deal brokered by the UN and Turkey, which also includes a memorandum of understanding between Russia and the UN, which will stop Russia from blocking grain and fertilizer exports in the Black Sea.
Last fall, the grain contract, which was supposed to expire on November 19, was extended for another 120 days, and now, if it is not extended, it will expire on March 18. Moscow has criticized the UN for not implementing part of the agreement to promote the export of Russian agricultural products to countries in need.
