The Lahore High Court, while accepting PTI’s petition, directed the Election Commission to give a date for the Punjab Assembly elections.

The Lahore High Court has issued a reserved order on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s petition regarding the date of elections in Punjab and the full copy of the order has also been published.

The decision on the date of elections in Punjab was written by Justice Jawad Hasan, the written decision will also be published on the website of the Lahore High Court.

In its summary judgment, the Lahore High Court said that the Election Commission should conduct the Punjab assembly elections within 90 days.

In its 16-page written judgment, the Lahore High Court also referred to decisions of higher courts.

The decision states that the Electoral Commission is obliged to hold and organize the elections according to the law, Article 220 of the Constitution obliges the federal and provincial institutions to support the Electoral Commission, the Electoral Commission must conduct the elections according to the law. Law.

The Lahore High Court goes on to say that if the assembly is dissolved without the governor’s signature, the Constitution does not mandate any authority to fix the date.

During the hearing of the case, Chief Secretary of Punjab, IG Punjab and Commissioner of Electoral Province of Punjab Saeed Gul appeared in the court.

The chief secretary and IG Punjab told the court that we have given our suggestions to the Election Commission, we are bound by the decision of the Election Commission and the court and we are bound to implement Article 220 of the Constitution.

Lahore High Court Justice Jawad Hasan said the court only wants your assurance.

It should be noted that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf dissolved the assemblies of Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa in January of this year, interim governments were established in both provinces, but the Election Commission has not yet announced the date of provincial assembly elections.

On the other hand, President Dr. Arif Alvi also wrote a letter to the Election Commission of Pakistan to announce the date of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly elections.
