Bahawalpur (Daily Pakistan Online) US Consul General in Lahore William K. McNeil emphasized the importance of the US-Pakistan partnership to enhance people-to-people relations between the two countries. He said that our countries have been partners for 75 years. Our countries have many common interests and values, which is reflected in our partnership and many forms of cooperation.
The Consul General appreciated the efforts of the local business community at a luncheon organized by the Bahawalpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry. “The US government has worked to promote trade and investment relations, encourage innovation, entrepreneurship and economic empowerment of women,” he said. During his visit to Milli Asia Ghi and Ashraf Sugar Mills, he emphasized the strong bilateral economic relations.
He further said that America is still Pakistan’s biggest export destination and Punjab is the center of trade between our two countries. US direct investment in Pakistan has increased by 50 percent and is now the highest in a decade. He praised the efforts of producers and said that our countries and the entire region will benefit from the expansion of bilateral trade and investment.
The Consul General visited the Black Deer Breeding and Conservation Center in Bahawalpur. He was impressed by the initiatives of the Department of Forestry and Fisheries of Punjab and discussed the US efforts to combat climate change through the Green Alliance with various partners in Pakistan. The US-Pakistan Green Alliance is a framework for solving common challenges related to agriculture, energy, water and other environmental issues.
