WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik – February 07, 2023) State Department spokesman Ned Price said in a statement that US and South Korean officials shared their concerns about North Korea’s involvement in a recent meeting despite repeated calls from the two countries.

Sung Kim, the US special representative for North Korea, met with Kim Gun, the South Korean special representative for peace and security affairs, on February 2 in Washington.

“The officials shared their assessment of the current dynamics on the Korean Peninsula and expressed serious concern about the failure of repeated calls from Washington and Seoul to engage Pyongyang,” Price said Monday.

Officials also discussed the US-S. Price said Korea’s cooperation in countering North Korea’s weapons programs and cyber activities.

In addition, the officials emphasized the need to continue to prioritize the well-being of the North Korean population in their respective policies toward the country, Price said.

The meeting comes as the United States and South Korea celebrate 70 years as alliance partners, Price added.
