WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik – February 14, 2023) A US jury is expected this week to convict Russian citizen Vladislav Klyushin, accused in connection with an alleged hacking and global trade scheme, according to his lawyer Maxim Nemtsev. reported Sputnik.
“The jury is deliberating now,” Nemtsev said Monday.
The jury heard closing arguments on Friday and is expected to announce its verdict this week, Nemtsev added.
Klyushin and four other Russian nationals were charged with crimes in connection with a global hacking and trading scheme that allegedly netted the defendant $82 million by using stolen company data to inform business decisions.
The US Department of Justice has accused the defendants of hacking the computer networks of two US service providers used by publicly traded companies to file quarterly and annual filings between January 2018 and September 2020.
Klyushin pleaded not guilty to all charges at his first court appearance in January, but a judge later denied his bail request and ordered him held pending trial.
Klyushin is the owner of the media monitoring and cyber security services company M13. He was arrested in Switzerland in March 2021 and extradited to the United States later that year.
